Understanding Real ID
- What is Real ID? Real ID is a federal requirement that establishes minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. Starting May 7, 2025, you'll need a Real ID to board domestic flights and access federal facilities.
- Why do I need it? Without a Real ID (or another acceptable form of identification, such as a passport), you won't be able to pass through airport security or enter federal buildings.
- Where can I find out more information? Visit the US Department of Homeland Security for more information.

What are the benefits of the Real ID?
1. **Enhanced Security**: Real ID aims to improve the security of identification documents, making it harder for individuals to use fake IDs.
2. **Standardization**: It creates a uniform standard for identification across states, which can simplify processes for travel and identification verification.
3. **Increased Trust**: With stricter verification processes, there’s a greater level of trust in the identities of individuals using these IDs, particularly in federal facilities and during air travel.
4. **Access to Federal Facilities**: Real ID-compliant identification is necessary to enter certain federal buildings and to board commercial flights within the U.S.
